Vogue China Internship: Photo Shoot Day!

Yes! The photo shoot finally arrived. It was on Monday, the 21st at Columbia University's track (when is Howard going to get that privilege? We are #2 best dressed after all!). Despite dreadful, overcast skies and multiple spurts of heavy rain showers, we still started at 645 AM taking trunks and suitcases down to the van to be picked up and taken to the shoot....

Trunks and garment bags ready to go at 645 AM!
And when I say there were rain showers that day, I'm talking flooded curbs and raindrops that sound like marbles hitting the roof. I did not know how on earth they planned to protect state-of-the-art photography equipment, luxury looks and designer jewels (talking over $80,000 in jewelry alone) from the gusts of wind and rain but they did it as smoothly and professionally as would be expected from Vogue and a photographer like Mark Seliger.

I honestly thought we were going to have to reschedule but realized quickly that there is none of that with models like the Australian Chrystal, who came from a Vogue Russia cover shoot the day before (which is why we could not have the shoot on that beautiful sunny Sunday, the day of this post), and photographers like Mark, who jetted off to LA just days after the shoot for other business. Nope, the shoot went on with large white tents, plenty of ponchos and at least a dozen umbrellas to shield the weather. However, the rain showers caused the day to take much longer than usual because we had to seek refuge inside every time the showers were really bad (which happened a few times), hence the reason I didn't get home until 1130 PM that night (645 AM-1130 PM was definitely a record for my longest work day ever). Yet, the day still went by quickly and it was so fun!

I helped prepare the looks, dressed the models, took pictures of reference for credit sheets, met Mark Seliger's studio staff, ate delicious catered food and soaked up everything (especially rain, haha) that I could about my first (and surely not last) Vogue photo shoot. And of course, I took tons of pics and must say that overall the shoot was a great success!  =)

Part of the yummy catered breakfast food..those apple rings with peanut butter and oats were mouth-watering!

Spreading out accessories for any quick changes to looks

Photographer Mark Seliger...he was really nice and funny (he even called my boss out once for how much she as asking me to do all at once which gave everybody a good laugh)

Scrumptious catered lunch...pasta, Caesar salad, prosciutto, melons, fresh veggies, baked chicken and more!
Hanging out with model Lina while waiting to go down for the next shot.

Lina and Chrystal staying warm as they wait for more shots.

Shots with the models and hair assistant, whom I must say was very dedicated and had a sweet personality!

The issue doesn't run for a couple of months but I will make sure to post all of the images as soon as they are published. Be on the look out for that! Thanks for taking this journey with me! I am still interning with the stylist and wrapping up with this photo shoot but I think this is a good place to end this series until the editorial runs. It has been fun, rewarding and motivating. So excited for my future and the many more fashion endeavors in store.

Vogue China: Day 3

Day three of the internship was quite rewarding like the last two, and also just as exhausting! Today, I did more running around to pick up samples but luckily they were not nearly as heavy as the large bags I picked up yesterday. I've already realized that one of the parts I love the most about this internship is checking in the samples that come in. As I make sure everything has come in I've been taking the opportunity to examine the designer merchandise and analyze what some of the upcoming trends may be, as well as what the aesthetic of that particular designer is.

Accessories are some of the most fun pieces to check in (though they take the longest) because I promise I have seen some jewelry pieces where the only thing that popped in my head is "Every time I ride around my city, BLING BLING" lol. But seriously, it's true. In addition to sparkly, crystals there were bags full of colorful, spiked pieces to "Ooh" and "Aah" at. I had three more packages of accessories to check in by the time 430 rolled around but I had to leave early today to attend a Macy's event that my boss let me go to in her place (blog post to come later). I was yearning to take a picture of some of the jewelry scattered across the carpet as I ticked them off the list but I refrained for the sake of the future editorial.

However, I did take some other pictures throughout the day from the showrooms to the apt....

Photo above this and this picture: In a showroom in SOHO today picking up samples. Can I just take the whole rack? Thanks!

Snapshots in the "closet"

Yep, and I thought my magazine collection was impressive... my boss has by far got me beat.

Won't be able to use these for the shoot so I snapped a pic ;-) Jeremy Scott for Adidas- CoLoRfUl! Would you wear these guys??
That wraps up day 3. As I mentioned before I am so tired! Whew, but it is a good tired =). Stay tuned for the rest of the internship as I countdown until the shoot date: May 21!!

xoxo

Vogue China Internship: Day 2

Wow, so I am actually surprised that I have time to blog since I've been so busy with graduation, moving and starting my internship working on a Vogue China photo shoot! Thanks to a stylist that I've kept in contact with since meeting last Summer, I was chosen by her to intern on an editorial shoot for an upcoming issue as well as for her personal business. I am extremely excited (what fashionista wouldn't be?) to take part in this opportunity.

So far the first few days have been much of what I would expect when working at a major fashion magazine and for a fashion industry vet: contacting PR firms, picking up and dropping off samples, gawking over designer merchandise, etc.

I just have a few pictures from my first few days so far. Nothing too grand but I wanted to share:

Took me forever to hail this cab on my 2nd day but was so grateful because hauling all these samples on the train would've been a feat!

Reflecting on the exhausting 2nd day while looking out of my boss's window
I have always dreamed of working for Vogue so landing this internship is simply motivation that I can and will achieve the desires of my heart (with God of course). I plan to soak up every ounce of knowledge and inspiration that I can and along the way I will share as much as I can with you all through blogging, though I know I must blog about Vogue China sparingly in order to keep the editorial issue a surprise :-)

Well, that's all for now. All of these images are off of my instagram account which is where I plan to post most of the pics that I take so if you want to see them instantly (haha) then...
