Vogue China August 2012: Fashion on the Ground Editorial

Remember that fabulous Vogue China gig I had earlier this summer working with a stylist in New York? Let me refresh your memory...

Well, the editorial has finally run in the August 2012 edition and I am in love with the final prints! Seeing the work that I assisted on for weeks come to life on the pages of Vogue China is an amazing feeling and I am so happy to finally share the finished product on my blog!

Vogue China Internship: Photo Shoot Day!

Yes! The photo shoot finally arrived. It was on Monday, the 21st at Columbia University's track (when is Howard going to get that privilege? We are #2 best dressed after all!). Despite dreadful, overcast skies and multiple spurts of heavy rain showers, we still started at 645 AM taking trunks and suitcases down to the van to be picked up and taken to the shoot....

Trunks and garment bags ready to go at 645 AM!
And when I say there were rain showers that day, I'm talking flooded curbs and raindrops that sound like marbles hitting the roof. I did not know how on earth they planned to protect state-of-the-art photography equipment, luxury looks and designer jewels (talking over $80,000 in jewelry alone) from the gusts of wind and rain but they did it as smoothly and professionally as would be expected from Vogue and a photographer like Mark Seliger.

I honestly thought we were going to have to reschedule but realized quickly that there is none of that with models like the Australian Chrystal, who came from a Vogue Russia cover shoot the day before (which is why we could not have the shoot on that beautiful sunny Sunday, the day of this post), and photographers like Mark, who jetted off to LA just days after the shoot for other business. Nope, the shoot went on with large white tents, plenty of ponchos and at least a dozen umbrellas to shield the weather. However, the rain showers caused the day to take much longer than usual because we had to seek refuge inside every time the showers were really bad (which happened a few times), hence the reason I didn't get home until 1130 PM that night (645 AM-1130 PM was definitely a record for my longest work day ever). Yet, the day still went by quickly and it was so fun!

I helped prepare the looks, dressed the models, took pictures of reference for credit sheets, met Mark Seliger's studio staff, ate delicious catered food and soaked up everything (especially rain, haha) that I could about my first (and surely not last) Vogue photo shoot. And of course, I took tons of pics and must say that overall the shoot was a great success!  =)

Part of the yummy catered breakfast food..those apple rings with peanut butter and oats were mouth-watering!

Spreading out accessories for any quick changes to looks

Photographer Mark Seliger...he was really nice and funny (he even called my boss out once for how much she as asking me to do all at once which gave everybody a good laugh)

Scrumptious catered lunch...pasta, Caesar salad, prosciutto, melons, fresh veggies, baked chicken and more!
Hanging out with model Lina while waiting to go down for the next shot.

Lina and Chrystal staying warm as they wait for more shots.

Shots with the models and hair assistant, whom I must say was very dedicated and had a sweet personality!

The issue doesn't run for a couple of months but I will make sure to post all of the images as soon as they are published. Be on the look out for that! Thanks for taking this journey with me! I am still interning with the stylist and wrapping up with this photo shoot but I think this is a good place to end this series until the editorial runs. It has been fun, rewarding and motivating. So excited for my future and the many more fashion endeavors in store.

Fashion Illustration II

I am so proud of my progress in Fashion Illustration II! While I don't want to be an illustrator or sketch artist I never would have thought I could do at the beginning of the semester what I turned in for my final project tonight at class. Plus, learning Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign are valuable skills across multiple industries.

Here are a couple of my sketches. I'm going to upload the flip book soon so you can see the entire collection =)

Sustainable Containers

With the whole world shifting towards the green movement, it's only sensible for yourself and for the environment to jump on the change. I am making sustainable changes in my life by recycling more, and most recently upcycling. Upcyling is when you take something and make something new out of it so that it can continue to be reused and not pollute the environment in landfills or rivers.

My first upcycled (is that the correct term?) item was a pepsi can. I turned it into a tray that can hold an assortment of items.

After seeing and being inspired to create a sustainable can container, I decided to keep going and used an empty plastic pretzel container for storage of my jewelry.

IPO Obama Collection Photo-Shoot: Behind-the-Scenes

Last weekend, I did round two of styling as the creative director for the clothing company, IPO Lifestyle Group, LLC. It went even more smoothly than the first shoot I produced in the Fall for the promo collection which was a sigh of relief. We had 6 models come and my assistant, Lyasia Schoolfield, and I styled them all to wear the Obama 2012 sweatshirt as well as some IPO promo pieces.

The theme that the CEO picked out for the shoot was "All-American" and he wanted that classic American image of denim, big hats, boots and the like to send the message that it is almost time for Americans to vote and they can show their support for candidates in a stylish way.

Here are some behind-the-scene snaps I took in down-time:
My fringe vest I found in the thrift store was perfect for the shoot!

Chloe's nails and jewelry went perfectly with her first look!

Styling Course Shoot

I feel like I'm doing my blog an injustice if I don't upload the pics from my fashion styling course shoot when I was at AIU London this past spring. My flatmate at the time, Jenny, shot some excellent photos for me.

I overall wanted to go for a "Look on the Bright Side" theme, which incorporated bright colors. Bright colors are something that I love and completes my wardrobe or any look I decided to wear so in order to express my styling technique I chose this concept.

Because I feel like it...

Shot in Islington, London. May 2011. (Finding more pics that I never had the chance to upload!)

IPO LookBook

The IPO website officially launched yesterday! It looks great thanks to Jason Coles' IT expertise and of course, it is so exciting to see the Lookbook (or "The Book" as named on the site).
Seeing the styling come to life is a great feeling and I can not wait for the next project.

But I don't want to spoil all the fun. See all of the Lookbook images for yourself!http://www.ipolifestyle.com/
